Known issues, ASCENDER API and TEA Update - as of 10/7/2024

The below issues have been reported by numerous schools. As you encounter these issues for the first time, it is important that these issues are still reported to our team so we can report them to our ASCENDER/TCC programming staff.

Please know the ASCENDER/TCC programming team is working very hard to get these and other issues corrected quickly. We sincerely appreciate everyone's patience as we work through this new way of reporting our data!

 

Known Issue: 400 Bad Request

Breadcrumb (screen location): District Administration > Inquiry > TSDS Level 1 Errors

Description of Issue: All schools are reporting unknown error messages on the Level 1 Error report for “Action Type: D” with an error message that says “400 Bad_Request” with no additional information. The above combination is critical in identifying this as a Known Issue. This is not limited to any certain Domain/Entity. Please know this is a programming issue and there is likely no issue with your data.

Disposition: This issue will be corrected with a future release. We do not have a software version nor a release date for this issue.

 

Known Issue: Nightly Extract Email

Description of Issue: Some schools are reporting they have stopped receiving the nightly extract email that gets sent at 6:00 am.

Disposition: please report this issue to your support staff via a ticket (link at the bottom of this email). Due to the individualized nature of the email notifications, each reported issue must be researched individually. Thank you!!

 

Known Issue: Missing Programs of Study

Breadcrumb: Registration > Maintenance > District Profile > District Maintenance > State Reporting

Description of issue: There are some descriptors missing from the Programs of Study dropdown.

Disposition: This issue will be corrected with a future release, currently planned for version 9.0200. We do not have a release date for this version.

 

Known Issue: TEA Census Block Utility

Breadcrumb: Registration > Utilities > TEA Census Block

Description of Issue: Schools are reporting that when the TEA Census Block is being run, the utility is incorrectly identifying all students as Homeless on the missing data report. Additionally, schools are reporting that the export file is blank.

Disposition: This issue will be corrected with a future release, currently planned for version 9.0200. We do not have a release date for this version.

 

Known Issue: Extract and Send Error Message

Breadcrumb: District Administration > Options > TSDS > Domains and Entities

Description of Issue: Some schools are reporting seeing an error message that states “Could not rollback JDBC transaction [snip]… This issue is manifesting when some schools click “Extract and Send” at the below location. After the error is seen, it appears no data is transmitted via the API.

Disposition: This issue is still being researched by the Tier 2 support team. As updates are available, more information will be communicated. If your school encounters this issue, please submit a support ticket to report the problem.

 

Known Issue: Rate Limiter Error

Breadcrumb: District Administration > Inquiry > TSDS Level 1 Errors

Description of Issue: Some schools are reporting seeing an error message on some Domains and Entities that says: “apiCallRateLimiter does not permit further calls”.

Disposition: This issue will be corrected with a future release, currently planned for version 9.0200. We do not have a release date for this version.

 

Known Issue: Nightly API Not Triggering

Breadcrumb: District Administration > Inquiry > TSDS Level 1 Errors

Description of Issue: Some schools are reporting that the nightly, automated API is not being triggered and is not being sent. This is evidenced by checkboxes on the “Domains and Entities” screen are checked but overnight, the boxes are not being made uneditable (grayed). Additionally, the Level 1 Error screen shows a recent extract date and time stamp but the error messages for Level 1 are not being refreshed or seen.

Disposition: This issue is still being researched by the Tier 2 support team. As updates are available, more information will be communicated.

TEA Update (installed Friday 10/4/24) and ASCENDER API Impacts

On Friday 10/4/24, TEA upgraded their system to the most recent version of the TWEDS, version 2025.2.1. This change will be modifying how TEA will be processing certain data points for TSDS purposes. More specifically, most of the changes will have to do with Staff data.

ASCENDER is currently working on these programmatic changes for your API. What this update means is when TEA comes back online this weekend, your level 1 Errors for staff may drastically increase. Please know this increase is temporary until the ASCENDER team is able to update the software to align with the new data standard.

This change will be felt by ALL software vendors and is not ASCENDER specific.  If you would like to review the specific details related to the additional Level 1 errors related to this TEA update click here

 

We have a tentative ASCENDER 9.0200 release/install date of 10/18/2024 for Region 16 schools. Please know this date is subject to change and is dependent on successful testing.  This is expected to fix many of the issues that have been described.
