Staff Stories: Isaias Vega

For Isaias Vega, working in technology isn’t just a career—it’s a calling. Growing up fascinated with technology, Isaias felt drawn to a field where his skills could make a tangible impact. As a Technology Support Specialist at Region 16, Isaias is doing exactly that, contributing to the success of the Panhandle education system one solved issue at a time.

“My role is a lot about being hands-on with people,” he explains. “It’s setting up accounts, ensuring permissions are aligned, and making sure everything runs smoothly for our staff and school districts. I wouldn’t say I make a big difference, but I hope I make a small impact on people every day.”

The truth is, Isaias’s impact goes far beyond what he humbly acknowledges. Whether troubleshooting for presenters in the middle of a critical meeting or helping a coworker overcome a technical hurdle, his efforts are deeply appreciated.

Brenda Thompson, a coworker, sums it up best: "Isaias is prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable! Isaias ALWAYS has a smile on his face, and his willingness to help at any moment is why I felt motivated to nominate him for Customer Service Guru. Isaias, keep being the awesome person you are! R16 is lucky to have you!"

Isaias Works on Laptop at Region 16For Isaias, the real reward is the fulfillment he gets from helping others. “I don’t like to say I get a cake out of the praise,” he says, “but I feel better knowing I contributed to helping someone else.” His dedication to assisting others—whether it's a staff member or a presenter in need—stems from his belief in the importance of loyalty and collaboration. “Loyalty is about being yourself with each person, whether they’re a staff member or not,” he reflects.

Isaias also sees his role as part of a larger, collaborative effort within the Technology Services department. “It’s not just me behind the scenes working—it’s a whole team. I’m happy to be one of the staff features, but it’s not just me making a difference.”

Outside of work, Isaias’s passion for technology continues. “I feel like I’m never really off work,” he laughs. Whether experimenting with his home lab or studying for certifications, he’s always looking for ways to grow in his field. Yet, he balances this drive with hobbies like playing video games, grilling (though he modestly admits he’s “not the best”), and spending time with his dog.

Looking ahead, Isaias is excited about the future of technology, especially advancements in artificial intelligence. “I was born when the computer was already out, but AI is completely new. It’s exciting to see what it will eventually become, and I’m happy I get to be here to witness it.”

Although his journey into technology wasn’t straightforward—he initially wanted to be a radiologist—Isaias has found his purpose in IT. “I realized I had a gift for this stuff,” he shares. “The challenges I face, whether technical or personal anxieties, give me a lot of purpose and satisfaction in what I do every day.”

Ultimately, for Isaias, the work isn’t about chasing titles or paychecks. “I’m not looking for a super high-up position, but I want to keep doing what I do, just on a greater scale. It’s more about the people, less about the paycheck.”

Region 16 is lucky to have someone like Isaias—a dedicated professional who not only solves technical problems but also creates a positive, welcoming environment for everyone he helps. His story is a testament to the power of passion, teamwork, and making a difference, one small impact at a time.
