Migrant Services

What is the TMEP?

The purpose of the Texas Migrant Education Program (TMEP) is to design and support migratory students in overcoming the challenges of mobility, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, and other difficulties associated with a migratory lifestyle.

Over 1,800 students come to our region yearly, following their parents who work with the agricultural products in the Texas Panhandle (cattle, wheat, cotton, etc.). While moving with their families to find work, these students transition from one school district to another, which can lead to gaps in their education.

Region 16 MEP services are designed to support students in meeting their learning needs, helping them stay on track with their peers, and reducing the risk of not completing their education.
